USING A DSMB

The Delayed Surface Marker Buoy, commonly known as a DSMB, is a crucial piece of kit used for diving in the sea. Unlike a normal surface marker buoy, that stays on the surface from the beginning of the dive, a DSMB sits in your pocket until you are ready to use it - hence the term delayed.

By attaching your DSMB to a reel, you can then put some air into it and send it to the surface knowing it will give your whereabouts to the boat crew. Using a DSMB is an essential skill which Fiftybar Diving considers not only useful but imperative if you want to come open water diving with us.

RESCUE SKILLS AUGUST

If you have completed your PADI Rescue Diver Course then this is a great time to refresh some of the skills you learnt and probably haven't used since. If you are not yet a PADI Rescue Diver, then this a really good opportunity to see and try some of the things you learn on the course - such as how to deal with a diver who's distressed or tired. By playing both rescuer and rescuee, this will be a good fun, hands on session, that will give you an insight into how you can develop your confidence and ability to help other divers.

NIGHT DIVE SEPTEMBER

Ok, so this is in a swimming pool and there aren't any fish but, you can still get a taste of the excitement of night diving.

Even the most experienced divers will tell you that diving at night is a new and wonderful world that is rarely seen.

By turning all the lights off in the pool we can go a small way to simulate a night dive.

We will go through how to communicate and some proper procedures and hopefully give you a glimpse of what it is like.
